What is the Question?

The answer is to think of yourself as better than you are.

Once you think of yourself as this better person, then live up to your thoughts.

If every person who reads these words acts on them in good faith, it will be big.

And Good.

Maeke: Hmmm ... I disagree. That kind of thinking often times sets a person up for failure. For some, it's a challenge and does turn out to be a positive. But for most people, at some point their egos will burst upon learning that, in fact, they are not so good. Crisis hotlines are filled with people struggling with failure feelings. Luckily the hotlines are "free" for the callers. But the prices paid to for-profit shrinks and a variety of healers who help people regain -- or attain -- self esteem are astronomical.

No -- the answer is, "Be as good as you can be." The meaning of that is to put forth your best efforts and attempts. Then, if so inclined, challenge oneself to go a step further, all the while feeling proud of what was already accomplished. If the "further step" turns out not to work well, that's okay. It was an undemanding attempt with no guarantees. A person can decide to revisit that step at another point in time without obligation. Whether or not he/she does, it's been a learning experience regardless.

The greatest people are the most humble who credit their capabilities to a higher spirit and view their capabilities as "gifts" -- Jesus, Mother Theresa, Ghandi, the Dalai Lama ...
